I firmly believe that it’s not what you paint, but how you feel when painting. There is a certain feeling the process gives me. I get excited merely from the experience of painting itself. I express a lot of joy through each brush stroke and through the conscious and intuitive decisions that are being made.
When I paint, I maintain a balance between working intuitively and analytically. When starting my process, it is not preconceived, but begins with the creation of a shape, and the multidirectional shapes that follow subsequently.
I have my own vocabulary of form, regarding shapes, color, and space. My form and shapes are very organic and appear unexpectedly. Using acrylic as my favorite medium, I typically play around and experiment with different color pallets. Overall there is a certain purity of color throughout most of my works. I tend to make a relatively shallow space. Depending on how I feel, I sometimes use charcoal over the acrylics to add a different layer.
Though not exactly alike, Helen Frankenthaler is one of my inspirations regarding abstract painting. Helen says, "There are no rules. That is how art is born, how breakthroughs happen. Go against the rules or ignore the rules. That is what invention is about." The idea of innovation and discovery is something that resonates with me and stimulates me through my work as an artist.
